Just around the corner from East Terrace and heading west, is the building that is known locally as Ayer's House.

The building construction was started in 1846 for William Paxton, an Adelaide chemist. It was purchased in 1855 by Sir Henry Ayers, a prominent Adelaide Parliamentarian. 

Sir Heny lived here until his death in 1897. Over the years the building has had many uses, including a dance hall, and nurses quarters.

Currently it is used for private functions, and guided tours of the building are available. Booking are essential for tour groups.

Open Tuesday - Friday 10 am to 4 pm
Weekends & Public Holidays 1pm to 4 pm.
Closed Monday, Good Friday, and Christmas Day.
