Just around the corner from East Terrace and heading west, is the
building that is known locally as Ayer's House.
The building construction was started in 1846 for William Paxton, a
Adelaide chemist. It was purchased in 1855 by Sir Henry Ayers, a
prominent Adelaide Parliamentarian.

Sir Heny lived here until his death in 1897. Over the years the
building has had many uses, including a dance hall, and nurses quarters.

Currently it is used for private functions, and guided tours of the building are available. Booking are essential for tour groups.

Open Tuesday - Friday 10 am to 4 pm.
Weekends & Public Holidays 1pm to 4 pm.
Closed Monday, Good Friday, and Christmas Day.
